The Brazilian media and government officials are all up in arms about this Italian ad campaign. And quite frankly, I agree with them. So what is the fuss about?
The Spring / Summer 2009 ad campaign for Relish shows two fashionistas getting roughed up and manhandled by Brazilian police officers. This is certainly not good for the image of Brazil or its tourism. The inspiration of the theme is supposed to be the iconic Thelma & Louise movie, but why didn’t they use Italian police outfits? I am all for artistic and edgy themes, but you have to be sensitive when you portray other nationalities in your own ad campaign. The shoot was in Brazil, but they could have easily used Italy’s police officer customs if they think the images does not offend the police or the country.
